Accessibility

A sanctuary everyone can reach.

The short version: this site is built to WCAG 2.1 AA, we test it, and if anything on it is in your way we will book you in by hand. Last updated October 21, 2026.

Our commitment

Kaleidoscope Desert Foundation wants everyone to be able to read about the sanctuary, book a visit, and support the animals, whatever tools they use to browse. This statement covers kaleidoscopedesert.com, the booking pages at visit.kaleidoscopedesert.com, and the pages our booked guests use to sign their agreement, see their booking, and show their ticket.

The standard we work to

We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice uses for websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What that looks like on this site

Every page is built in semantic HTML with landmarks and a skip link, so a screen reader can jump straight to the content. Everything works with a keyboard alone, and the focused control is always visible. Form fields and buttons are labelled, every meaningful image has a text description, and text is held to at least 4.5:1 contrast against its background.

The kaleidoscope, the sky and the string lights are decoration. They are hidden from assistive technology, and they stop when your system asks for reduced motion. The Calm switch at the top of every page does the same for anyone who wants it. Sound never plays unless you turn it on.

We scan every public page with axe-core, the open-source accessibility checker, and go through the booking flow by hand with a keyboard and with VoiceOver. We run the checks again whenever the site changes.

Known limitations

Card payments and donations run on pages hosted by Stripe, which Stripe maintains to its own accessibility standard. A few short videos on the booking pages are decorative and play muted, with the same information in the text beside them. If you find a page that does not work for you, tell us and we will fix it.

If something is in your way

Email info@kaleidoscopedesert.com or text (760) 418-0921. Say what you were trying to do and what happened, and we will get back to you within two business days.

If the website stops you from booking a visit, buying a ticket, or making a donation, we will do it with you by email or text at the same price, so nothing on the site stands between you and the animals.

Visiting in person

The sanctuary is 7.5 acres of open desert, with packed earth and gravel paths, some slopes, and animals that roam free. Tell us before your visit what would help you, and we will plan the route and the pace of your tour around it.
