A Joshua Tree bachelorette works because the desert does a lot of the planning for you. Big skies, strange art, warm days and cool nights. What you need are a few great things to do together that the group will still be talking about at the wedding. Here are our favorites.
Spend the Day With Rescued Animals
At Kaleidoscope Desert Sanctuary in Morongo Valley, 15 minutes from Joshua Tree, the Day Pass gives your group the whole afternoon, 12 to 6 PM, for $165 each. It opens with a guided tour of the rescue, includes a Gamelatron sound session, and leaves the rest of the day for the pool, the hot tub and the residents, a zebra, mini horses, emus, goats, pigs and more, who wander over on their own terms. Everything is 18 and up, which suits a bachelorette just fine.

Book the Evening Tour + Swim
Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6 PM, the Evening Tour + Swim is about two hours at the sanctuary as the light goes gold, with drinks and snacks included, for $95 each. It is an easy way to kick off a Friday night before dinner.
Lie Down Together for a Sound Bath
The Gamelatron Sound Experience is a full hour of robotic gamelan, fifteen bronze gongs played by mechanical mallets, in a light-filled room on the sanctuary grounds. Sessions run on the hour from 1 to 7 PM for $65. It is the calm morning-after reset the group did not know it needed.
Dinner and a Show in Pioneertown
Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown is the high desert’s legendary roadhouse, with barbecue, a lively room and live music on show nights. Reserve ahead for a group, and walk the Old West Mane Street before you sit down.
Go Vintage Shopping
Highway 62 through Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree is lined with vintage and antique shops. Give everyone a budget and a theme, maybe matching cowboy hats, and meet back for photos.
Watch the Stars
The skies around Joshua Tree are some of the darkest in Southern California. On the last night, find somewhere dark, bring blankets, and look up. On a clear, moonless night the Milky Way puts on the show.
Planning Tips
Everyone in the group needs their own ticket, and weekend afternoons fill up, so book tours, day passes and Gamelatron sessions early at kaleidoscopedesert.com/visit. Every visit is 18 and up. And pack layers: desert evenings get cold fast, even after a hot day.
