Kaleidoscope Desert Featured on HGTV’s Wild Vacation Rentals: Desert Escapes

We are thrilled to share that Kaleidoscope Desert was featured on HGTV’s Wild Vacation Rentals, Season 1, Episode 6: “Desert Escapes.” The episode follows comedians and besties D’Arcy Carden and Sherry Cola as they explore unique vacation rentals in California’s High Desert, and we were honored to welcome them to our sanctuary.

Kaleidoscope Desert is a 5-acre nonprofit animal sanctuary and outdoor art space tucked into the Mojave Desert near Joshua Tree, California. The HGTV team visited the property to highlight what makes this place unlike any other desert retreat — a working sanctuary where rescued animals, immersive art installations, and the raw beauty of the high desert come together in one living, breathing landscape.

Guests who visit the sanctuary meet rescued and rehomed animals including mini horses, mini cows, emus, goats, pigs, peacocks, a giant sulcata tortoise, dogs, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, and guinea hens. The property is also home to sculptures and installations from artists including Bunnie Reiss, Tijuana Tony, Lucas Woodamon, Shrine On, and Jose Di Gregorio, with murals and artwork around every corner.

As a 501c3 nonprofit, every visit and every booking directly supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of the animals who call Kaleidoscope Desert home. We are deeply grateful to HGTV, Wild Vacation Rentals, photographer Nick Agro, journalist Ben Breslerman, and to D’Arcy and Sherry for sharing our sanctuary with a wider audience.

If the episode brought you here for the first time — welcome. Come experience the desert artscape for yourself. Book a guided sanctuary tour, a Gamelatron sound ceremony, or a full Day Pass, and help us continue caring for the animals and growing this magical place. Every ticket and donation makes a difference.
